Templar's Hall 'Riots'
The residents of Templar's Hall, Waterford feel the students are disrespectful and have no worries about anyone but themselves. They claim the students harass them and their families on nights out and they 'fear' for there safety. Students are "smashing bottles, passing out, running around naked and disturbing the peace" according to one resident of the area. The residents have started going out into the streets at night in groups to try and stop anti social behavior from occurring. Many residents feel that the problem has been getting worse over the years and are now intent on stopping it once and for all. Now for my take on this piece of news. I can understand the residents have children and want them to get a good nights sleep but if they think getting up in our faces when we'r minding our own business is going to solve the problem they have another thing coming. I was at a party myself on Wednesday night and the residents had video camera's and were getting up in our faces with them. STOP, I'll think you'll find residents this is in fact against the law! The women are usually the mouthy one's that shout abuse at us and then cower behind the huge men they have with them as back up in case something kicks off. The house party I was at kept all windows and doors firmly shut and had the music reasonably loud. The residents claim this is acceptable and that they don't mind this, yet they were at the house outside in a group of approximately 20 shouting at us leaving the house and counting how many of us were leaving the premises! We don't invade their privacy so what gives them the right to invade ours? This problem will end in a couple of weeks and I hope it ends peacefully but I know if the residents keep interfering with the students and provoking them it will not end kindly for them. As everyone knows if you push people far enough they will retaliate!
Investment Ireland
Ireland has had a rise of 49% Us foreign investment from 2010 and the amount is approximately $18 billion. The quantity of the investment put Ireland level with the likes of Canada, England and the Netherlands. This money is highly important to the Irish economy as it accounts for about a quarter of Ireland's gross domestic product. As most people know Ireland has many multinational corporations currently employing a significant amount of Irish people her in Ireland. Firms such as Microsoft, Google, HP, Intel, Pfizer and Abbot are all prime examples of the foreign investment from the US. The Irish government does its part too though as it helped sustain 120.00 jobs last year and invested some $8 billion to the previously named firms. This can only be good news for the Irish market and people as the Irish people cannot afford to have more workers lay'd off to sit glumly on the dole. The named companies come to Ireland for the cheap corporation tax and they highly skilled IT workers in most cases. They tend to stay away from the UK and Greece for reasons such as high taxes and obviously a highly violent unrest against a minority of their citizens. Ireland may have unrest but I don't think that type of violent conduct is in most of our people. Well there's one way to look at it, the rioting hasn't happened in Ireland.......yet. Hopefully never.
Conman gets £750 million in loans
A conman pretended to be a property tycoon in order to con AIB into giving him £750 million in loans. The court case began on the 28/09/2011. Achilleas Kallakis (43) pretended to be a scion of a Greek shipping dynasty. The money was used to buy a property empire spanning the world but it was based on lies of grandeur and quite a large amount of fake documents. 16 properties were bought in total beginning in 2003 after Mr.Kallakis had been introduced to the bank. Mr.Kallakis and his accomplice Mr.Williams have been charged with 13 counts of forgery, 5 counts of fraud by false representation, 2 counts of money laundering and 1 count of obtaining a money transfer by deception. The properties bought were commercial and not residential. The men were caught when one of their companies went bust, Mr.Williams instructed their IT manager to delete all the servers as they held all the forged documents but the IT manager instead backed-up all the files and this is part of the reason the men were caught. The court case still continues.
